We've had about 3 guest worship leaders at CVC this past year. That, in and off itself, is not that spectacular. However, I think there is something great going on...here's what I mean.
Our Worship Pastor, Mark Marsella, has been doing a great job cultivating a team approach to worship leading. Mark is our Worship pastor and primary worship leader and Sunny Cain has also been an awesome worship leader among us as well. We've had several of our students (Aaron Buonocorsi, Rachel Jackson, Bobby Stiehler and others), all under the leadership of Amy Malekos, lead worship several times.
This weekend, we had Everett Musselman lead us in worship in an unplugged set. Everett has beeen around CVC for all of our 10 years, but to be honest, has never been consistent in ministry and relationships (he would agree with that assessment). Recently, he resubmitted himself to Mark's leadership and has been very faithful. So, Tina Temple, our awesome Program Director, scheduled Ev to lead worship this week himself with Tina singing back-up on a final song. The worship went really well and we had a great weekend.
BUT, what made me really sit up and take notice was watching how well our church family responded to Ev's leadership. Yes, Ev is very talented and gifted and that is part of it. But I think it also speaks well of Mark's leadership and our church family's growth...instead of only being able to follow one leader, they are following any GOOD LEADER.
I think I've seen the same thing when I've brought in good and gifted speakers. Our people will listen and respond to a gifted teacher in almost the same way they respond to me, their teaching leader the majority of weekends.
So here is my thinking...tell me if you agree or disagree: GOOD LEADERS CREATE GOOD FOLLOWERS.
What do you think abou that?
